About Germán Tagle
Germán Tagle (b. 1976, Santiago, Chile) studied Architecture at the Universidad Finis Terrae (1995–2000) before developing an independent artistic practice.
After travelling to New York in 2003 and Argentina in 2004, he was based in New York between 2005 and 2010, where he began exhibiting regularly. Notable solo exhibitions include New Empire (2009) and Eternal Return (2010) at Elga Wimmer PCC, New York. His work was also featured in the 2007 Biennial at El Museo del Barrio and later in group exhibitions there in 2013 and 2017, placing him among an important generation of Latin American artists working internationally.
Tagle returned to Chile in 2010, where his practice expanded through experimentation with diverse supports, including textiles and book pages. His works often intervene upon pre-existing imagery, over which he applies dense acrylic layers and expressive impasto.
Combining bold expressionistic stain with printed canvas, Tagle constructs synthetic landscapes that reflect on the transformation of nature through human intervention. Influenced in part by the speculative fiction of J. G. Ballard, his recent paintings evoke imaginary terrains marked by ecological tension and the absence of human presence.
His work forms part of major collections including El Museo del Barrio (New York), the Engel Collection (Chile), and the Juan Entrecanales Collection (Spain).
